NASHVILLE — Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Haslam might want to evaluate the wisdom of handing out more taxpayer money to an auto manufacturing company.
That’s because some critics believe bailouts or incentives at the state and federal levels has actually hurt auto manufacturing employment in southern states.
Haslam and other state officials are currently pondering whether to dole out a $300 million incentive package to Volkswagen of Chattanooga, despite United Auto Workers’ fervent attempts to set up shop there.
